And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
- Psalms 1:3 -
Whenever I contemplate the Psalmist's description of the righteous man, I am reminded of this song...
I saw a tree by the riverside one day as I walked along.
Straight as an arrow and pointing to the sky growing tall and strong.
"How do you grow so tall and strong?" I said to the riverside tree.
This is the song my tree friend sang to me:
Refrain:
I've got roots growing down to the water,
I've got leaves growing up to the sunshine,
and the fruit that I bear is a sign of the life in me.
I am shade from the hot summer sundown.
I am nest for the birds of the heavens.
I'm becoming what the Lord of trees has meant me to be:
A strong young tree.
... and I am reminded of where I need to be in order to grow and remain strong in faith:
- Grounded in the Word (Ps. 119:11) and constantly imbibing the Water of Life. (Jn. 4:14)
- Heart uplifted to the Sun of Righteousness. (Mal. 4:2)
- So that I may bear much fruit... love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (Gal. 5:22-23)
- And live my life, with arms outstretched in service to my fellowmen.
Heavenly Father, You prompt and we abide. Feeble mortals though we are, make us reflectors of Your glory.
