Jamaicans will go out to choose new Members of Parliament (and ultimately a Prime Minister) on December 29, 2011.
I should really say some Jamaicans, because I will not be among them.
O_O
As a Christian, I have a problem with the idea that the need to perform my civic duty somehow trumps Bible-based principle.
"We need to participate in the process, so just go with the best of the worst." *shrugs*
No. I don't get that kind of reasoning...... I really don't.
As follower of Christ, I cannot 'settle', because to choose an ungodly/unprincipled individual to represent me in Parliament is to become a partaker in his/her sins when he/she (inevitably) promotes ideas that go against my principles.
I refuse to be an enabler.
The reality of the Jamaican (and, dare I say... global?) situation is that - for all their fancy speeches and political rhetoric - unconsecrated politicians do not have the answer to all that ails us. Their degree programmes did not cover 'end-time debt management', so all they can reasonably offer is a steaming helping of uncertainty, a hearty dose of trial-and-error, with a side of keep-your-fingers-crossed-and-pray-to-anyone-who-will-listen.
I have lived through many general elections and seen numerous changes of government, and - regardless of who rises when the dust (and maybe a little blood) settles - I can always count on one thing.
Always.
Things get progressively worse in one way or another.
However, the voting population is guaranteed to forget this very thing whenever elections roll around again, and so we keep switching from one to the other..... doing exactly the same thing in the same way every single time, but expecting different results. O_o
*yawn*
Well, come to think of it, I need to modify that statement..... the flavour IS a little different this time around! I cannot recall any politician ever claiming to be guided by his dead grandmother before now. Hmmm.....
This may be our most interesting election yet, but - unless I die or am hospitalised - I will be working in the garden. Trust and believe that backyard (or front yard) gardening will become even more vital after December 29.
Psst..... I already cast my vote. I vote JESUS.
